Origins

This space is a manifestation of my journey inward through creative expression. An opportunity as a lifelong researcher to explore product ideation with the intention of challenging the societal standards of what quality natural luxury self care essentials look and feel like. The collection is curated from a place that desires a new way to inspire sustainable wellness rituals that encourage an increasing capacity for community care.

Proper Candle Care Etiquette.

  • The first time you burn make sure you have at least 1-2 hours so you can make sure the candle wax melts all the way to the edges. This will ensure an even burning candle all the way down.

  • Trim wicks (with clippers, tweezer, or even your fingers) before each light session to avoid smoking and overheating.

HOW it all started.

Est. 2020

(A bit of a long read, but worth it.. regardless of if you buy our candles or not)

Started the pandemic by completely dropping the ball on stocking up on candles. While this dilemma is something I could’ve easily solved with just ordering a candle online, I instead decided to take on the DIY challenge. In doing my research I learned that the candles that I used to use regularly were toxic.

YES (SIS), I SAID TOXIC!

Most candles today are made of paraffin wax which creates highly toxic benzene and toluene when burned (both are known carcinogens). In fact, the toxins released from paraffin candles are the same as those found in diesel fuel fumes and are linked to asthma and lung cancer.

As a biochemist, I am well aware of the impact that air quality has on your overall health. Personally, I refuse to be responsible for negatively impacting my living space with emissions of air pollutants (even if they are small quantities).

(& I already live in one the most air polluted states in America @#$%!!!)

After doing some intensely objective research and learning about naturally sourced candle wax that doesn’t release toxins into the air (beeswax, soy wax, apricot wax, and coconut) I decided on using a 100% beeswax coconut blend over the other options. This decision was made not only because of the natural honey sweet scent already attached to beeswax but also and more importantly because beeswax candles last/burn longer due to the naturally higher melting point.

Another thing I learned through my research is that companies will detail their candles as a “soy blend” or “beeswax blend” and still include small percentages of paraffin. This mistrust really led me to creating my own candles and that’s why it’s really important for me to provide full transparency of the quality of my ingredients.
